This week saw the return of the mens 1st team. Back in B division after promotion last year, we knew it would be tough especially starting with 2 matches in the same week.

On Wednesday night we were at home against Blaydon – and ended up against a blast from the past in Mark McPeake! They are a very good team and after a tough night in poor light we ended up losing 10-6.

Then on Friday night things got back on track with a tough 10-8 win away at Northumberland. If it had finished 9-9 we would have lost of games so really good to be able to get the win.

Stand out performances come from Head of Junior coaching Glen Newton and Ashwin Kuppusamy who won 9 out of 12 sets. The whole team performance was good in both matches and something to build on next week when the 1st, 2nd and 4th teams are in action.

Please note, as a result Junior Coaching on Saturday morning will not be on.

This position will be reviewed by the committee each month. Potential new members can email Membership Secretary Les Tate (kaznles@o2.co.uk) to inform him of your desire to join and to secure a place on the waiting list. When the situation changes you will be contacted and asked if you still wish to apply.

Current members are reminded that our ‘membership year’ runs from April 1st to March 31st and any member not renewing their membership by May 15th may be deemed by the committee to no longer be a member of the club.

Terrible start to the season as the new-look 2nd team went to Durham Archery and were handed a 12-2 defeat. They were a very good side and will probably win that division. The only pair to pick up sets were Jack Grummitt and Joe Robosn who continued the good form from last season.

The 2nd team needs sorting out – see you at mens practice.

Thanks to the 24 people who turned up to play in the tournament and everyone who contributed canned food which will go to the iCan appeal and help to eliminate food poverty in the North East.

The team consisting of Timothy Sung, James Loraine, Will Ridley and Max Southern got off to a slow start against Ponteland. Against strong opposition the boys fell to a 5 – 1 defeat having put up a strong fight. Against Forest Hall, they regrouped and produced a great display winning 6 – 0 losing just 15 games and showing consistency in their performance.

Well done guys keep up the good work!
